Tunde scored 279 on JAMB and received an offer from a federal university. He turned it down. The course was not what he wanted, the campus was four states away, and there was no money for accommodation. He told his parents he would reapply the following year.
For twelve months, he worked at a printing shop in Sagamu, waking at 5am and finishing at 7pm. He kept his JAMB result slip on the wall above his bed.
A community WhatsApp group shared the Decagon application link on a Saturday morning. He applied before noon.
At Babcock University, he enrolled in Biochemistry. His lecturers noticed him quickly. By the end of his first year, he had been shortlisted for a research internship in the department's second-year programme — a placement usually reserved for third-year students.
He still has the JAMB result slip. It is now framed.
